I want to charter a yacht for a week or two, I have no real experience sailing, is a crash course possible?

I have actually sailed a little cat around a lake for a bit, I’m able bodied and a quick learner. I’m hoping it’s possible to brush up on a day course and then take it out with my mrs on our own for a couple of weeks.
Crash course being maybe a one or two day course. I do not want to be accompanied by a skipper if possible.

Short answer is no. At least not with one of the major charter companies. Go here for more info.:http://www.asa.com/ and here : http://www.moorings.com/
You’ll need about two weeks of sailing lessons .

Crash course? I dunno. But I think a crash is highly likely.

When you charter a bus, do you have to drive the bus? No. When you charter a yacht, don’t you think that just maybe it might come with a skipper? Do you really think anyone would let someone with no experience try to pilot one of those things?

You can always do guided sailing. But if you want to be alone with your lady, ask the charter company if they do any training. They might have to take you into a harbor and show you the ropes. Make sure you ask this far in advance to you scheduled trip, as this may take a few hours to make sure you know the ropes.
