A Somali pirate spots a luxury yacht and discovers that it is perfect to hijack.
As they get closer… all hell breaks loose when the luxury yacht sailors arm themselves with AK-47s, rocket launchers, missile launchers.
Isn’t this the perfect way to stomp some pirate skulls? send in bait to lure the Somali pirates then secretly have the military close by and BAM SURPRISE ATTACK.

Aw, some American civil rights group would pounce to their rescue and before it was over the government would owe them millions of dollars, the soldiers that participated would be tried and convicted for war crimes…
But, yea, it’s a great idea.
I think it is illegal to load weapons on to cargo/cruise ships because of international law.
But maybe if we could ignore that law for a few minutes we could do this. Or just break it completely.
I think we should just break it, blast those pirates into the ocean.
Better to place a few soldiers of fortune on the ships and have them armed to the teeth – maybe then we could ransom the captured pirates back to their own bosses.
It would only work once or twice, then any yacht would send the pirates running for their lives. Love the idea tho.
There’s this thing they have called the US Navy and the Royal Navy. They already mantain a proximity presence in those waters. More ships are going in with armed guards too.
This whole pirate thing is being completely blown out of proportion anyway. You know how many ships use those waters every day compared to how many attacks have taken place ? 50 ships a day use those sea lanes, and on average, there have been 5 attacks a year.

Sorry to burst your bubble but your idea makes too much sense. Government officials would never go for it. Unless of course they could spent 500 times what it’s worth to do it.

If the pirates don’t have eyes on-board the target ships before they even leave port, they’re a lot dumber than I think they are.
I don’t think your decoys would ever see any pirates.

I’m sure navies from across the world have considered the possibilities of baiting pirates too. It’d be nice, but perhaps it’s not as feasible as one’s inclined to think.
No offence, but I think the Somalians would be wondering what is up with the yacht. I doubt they see to many of them, unless they belong to warlords, and those arnt people they want to fight.
