Owning a boat is also similar to owning a car. As in car insurance, boat insurance is highly recommended for every boat owner to ensure maximum protection against certain elements.

You should include boat insurance in your annual expenses. Insurance companies are the major sources for boat insurance which offers general covers or can be custom-made to accommodate a specific type of boat and its underlying conditions. Basically, boat insurance coverage includes accidents, loss, vandalism, and personal liability.

There are a variety of boat insurance packages to select from. They include pleasure boats, skipper and bareboat charter, and commercial marine risks. Motor boats and racing boats fall under another category of specialized boat insurance offered by insurance brokers.

The insurance plans are coined by skilled boat insurance underwriters to suit individual needs. The brokers provide advice on the optimum insurance package for each customer. Quotations subsequently follow, depending again on the agreed boat insurance scheme. It is a relief to find out that said coverage is honored and accepted worldwide.

The extent of boat insurance coverage goes beyond the safety of a particular boat. It includes commercial boats, marine cargo, boat clubs, marinas, boat yards, boat builders, boat agents, boat brokerages, equipment manufacturers, marine engineers, sail makers, marine suppliers, marine consultants, chandlers, naval architects, and marine surveyors.

Discretionary clauses are likewise available, such as employer’s liability, public liability, business interruption, a professional indemnity, vessels undergoing construction, waterborne activities, boat charter, marina operators, pontoons, buildings, stock, contents, equipment, vessels, tools, machinery, moulds, and lifting equipment.

Fundamental boat insurance offers protection against physical damage, perils, and liability losses. By physical damage, this refers to the sails, hull, furniture, machinery and equipment aboard the boat. Perils would refer to malicious mischief, vandalism, and potential defects from craftsmanship.

Said insurance must offer contingency medical cover to the boat crew and passengers on board in case of untoward incidents. Likewise, property damage should also be stipulated under a third-party cover.

To sum it up, in obtaining a boat, you should prioritize applying for the appropriate boat insurance coverage for your own welfare and peace of mind. It will also be beneficial for you in the long run in case anything happens beyond your control.

There’s a common misconception that you need to be a wealthy individual or have access to your own yacht in order to learn to sail and to enjoy sailing as a past time. However nothing could be further from the truth and each week thousands of ordinary people go sailing through clubs and sailing schools all around the globe.

Sailing is something which can be learned at almost any stage in your life. I know of people who can’t even swim who are learning to sail and of all ages too. You’ll find an enormous amount of schools available to teach you how to sail in many locations ranging from just down the road to far away exotic lands.

Theses schools are very experienced and abide by strict guidelines in their sailing instruction. Almost all sailing schools offer certification which is internationally recognized and this is certainly something worth going for. With the right certification you’ll be able to bareboat charter a yacht anywhere in the world and have full use of it for the length of your holidays. It’s certainly one way to open up new horizons in your life and make every holiday a big adventure.

If you are feeling up to it the best method to start learning to sail is in a little sailboat around a protected bay where you are in sole command. The downside is that you will capsize quite a lot until you get the ‘feel’ of sailing however nothing is faster at teaching you the basics than that method.

For the older, more refined, generation you certainly don’t have to go down that route in order to learn how to sail. Instead there are what’s known as small keelboats which will not capsize and you instructor will be on board with you. This is also a perfectly acceptable method to learn sailing. In part 2 of this article we’ll discuss the process and exactly what you’ll go through.

St Martin is an island divided between two principalities: French in the north and Dutch in the south. Philipsburg is the capital of Dutch Saint Maarten and offers duty free shopping, casinos and nightlife and has some great bars around the waterfront. Marigot is the largest town in the French sector.

St Martin offers a wide choice of yacht charter and includes bareboat yacht charter, skippered yacht charter, luxury crewed yacht charter, monohull and catamaran charter and both sail and motor yacht charter.

Christopher Columbus discovered and claimed the island for Spain on 11th Nov 1493.The French settled on the island in 1624 to cultivate tobacco followed by the Dutch in 1631 who where looking for salt. In 1684 the island was divided into two zones, French Saint-Martin in the north and Dutch Saint Maarten in the south. The next 130 years saw the entire island occupied by the French, Dutch or British until 1816 when the French and Dutch zones resumed.

The weather is tropical, meaning it’s hot and sunny year-round with very little temperature variation between seasons. The average yearly air temperature is 27
